After observing the Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec Rising Hours one might say that time is a disc. The company first used rotating discs instead of hands for the sixty elapsed seconds and thirty elapsed minutes, with a rotating disc also being installed to show the hour in a second time zone. The Rising Hours is based on two discs placed one above the other which show twelve hours whether it’s a night-time or daytime hour.

The Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec Rising Hours has an off-center dial that indicates the time of day and instead of an hour-hand, a circular aperture at the “12” with a disc adorned with Arabic numerals placed below a triangular index, a similar display seen on other timepieces in the past. However, the Rising Hours is more evolved and its hour numerals change color according to the time of day. During the night they are pale blue and during the day black. This function makes it easier to assign each hour to the night or day and to set the date display so that the date changes at midnight correctly. The beautiful timepiece can be acquired in a stainless steel model with a black alligator-leather strap or a 950 platinum version with a grey alligator-leather strap, limited to 28 timepieces. The case diameter is 43 mm and the height 15.30 mm. If you like to enjoy a day at the beach, do not worry, the Rising Hours is water resistant to 30 meters.

The exterior of the watch is unusual, with features such as rotating discs under motionless pointers and a two-armed bridge at “6 o’clock”, decorated with bright red ruby bearings that put a smile on the dial. The 43-mm-diameter red golden case with finely terraced horns houses the timekeeping microcosm. Between the horns of the Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec Rising Hours we can notice the brown alligator-leather strap. Moreover, the fluted crown is also made of red gold adorned with a mother-of-pearl inlay that has the form of the company’s emblem. The protective sapphire crystal is antireflective on both its surfaces.

In 2013, Montblanc revealed the Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec Rising Hours for Monaco Only in order to reinforce its commitment to supporting research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy. This timepiece is under patronage of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco and is manufactured in Le Locle, from the best red gold and steel with dual carbon treatment. The auction will take place on September 28th 2013 in Monaco and the Monegasque Association against Muscular Dystrophies will receive the amount. The unique watch will travel for exhibition purposes before the auction to Shanghai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Geneve, New York and Beijing.
